Ice Age Trail Alliance seeks Knowles-Nelson funding

A stewardship grant would fund the purchase of 10 acres in Waupaca County to expand the Ice Age Trail.

The Ice Age Trail Alliance (IATA) plans to purchase of 9.8 acres in the Town of New Hope in Portage County, WI. IATA applied for a 50% matching grant from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program to assist with the land purchase.

The land will be open to the public for low-impact recreational activities including hiking, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. For this land purchase, IATA and Wisconsin DNR are proposing a 100-yard buffer along the trail corridor where hunting and trapping will be prohibited to protect public safety and accommodate trail use. The DNR will accept written comments from the public through September 17, 2021.
