What a fun day!! I started off by leading off the 10k run at Run Wild – an annual fall run through Potawatomi State Park put on by Friends of Potawatomi State Park. The weather and leaves were beautiful!
After Run Wild, I met up with several members of the Friends of the Fox River Trail and Friends of Heritage Hill State Historical Park to ride part of the Fox River State Trail.
I had never been to Heritage Hill before, but it is quite the place! It is a collection of historic buildings from the 1600s through the 1800s that have been collected from surrounding sites. It’s role is to educate students and the community about Green Bay’s history. There was even a reenactment happening while we were there! A group of people were reenacting preparing provisions – dried fish and squash and bread – for the upcoming winter during the French fur trading time. I learned so much and highly recommend going back! Everyone there was so passionate and invested. The park is also a beneficiary of Knowles-Nelson, which they use to acquire and maintain the land and facilities they have on the property.

A had company riding south (into the head wind) on most of the Fox River State Trail. I then cut over on the Friendship State Trail into Brillion and over the Devil’s River State Trail. Devil’s River was also lovely, running through the farm fields and across creeks to Denmark. After a hot day it was lovely to jump in the lake! What an adventure!
