Clover Valley segment of Ice Age Trail to be upgraded later this summer

The Ice Age Trail Alliance received a $20,000 Knowles-Nelson grant to upgrade bridges along a 1.6-mile segment in Clover Valley State Wildlife Area.

The Ice Age Trail Alliance has received a $20,000 grant from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program to upgrade a section of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail this summer. As reported by WCLO, this funding will support improvements to a 1.6-mile segment in the Clover Valley State Wildlife Area along the Rock-Walworth county line.

Melissa Pierick, the Alliance’s director of marketing and community relations, explained that volunteers will replace two bridges, add a new deck to another, and construct a new bridge and boardwalk in mid-July.

The Ice Age Trail has benefited from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program since the program’s creation in 1989, supporting infrastructure improvements that keep this nationally significant trail accessible to hikers exploring Wisconsin’s unique glacial landscape.
