Last week, Team Knowles Nelson joined Friends of Wisconsin State Parks for trivia night at Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee, chatting with people between rounds about how they spend time outdoors.
We heard about camping trips in the Kettle Moraine, long hikes on the Ice Age Trail, and daily commutes by way of the Oak Leaf Trail and the Beer Line Trail – which runs right through Lakefront’s backyard.
Those places exist because of public investment. For nearly 40 years, the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program has funded the trails and public land Wisconsinites rely on. The program lapsed this summer, and nights like this are a chance to show people how much it shapes their own backyard and daily life.
